EMRAL HOUSE

NURSING HOME

FEES AND FUNDING SOURCES

There are three main funding sources and these depend on:

a. Which category of care an individual requires

Care homes in Wales are registered by Care Inspectorate Wales to care for numerous categories of individuals including Residential Care with Nursing for either General Nursing or Mental Health Nursing and Residential Care without Nursing for both categories for residents whose needs are not so great as to require 24-hour nursing supervision.

Emral House is registered as a General Nursing Home although we can also accept residential clients who do not require 24-hour nursing supervision.

Most of our client’s fees are paid entirely by the Local Health Board and they are referred to as Continuing Healthcare patients (CHC), which means, patients who would otherwise be permanently in hospital. For these the NHS must accept full responsibility for their funding regardless of whether they are in hospital or a nursing home.

b. What personal assets an individual has

Individuals whose needs are not so great as to qualify for Continuing Healthcare will have most of their fee paid by their Local Authority Social Services Department with a smaller component of the fee, known as Funded Nursing Care (FNC), being paid for by the NHS.

If an individual does not qualify for CHC but also has assets in excess of a certain amount, then they must pay for the Local Authority component, either partially or entirely out of their own resources. These are referred to as Self-Funding clients.

Fees are normally reviewed annually and increased in line with inflation.
